gynaecology
Fibroids, Cysts & Endometriosis
Diagnosis and treatment of common gynaecological tumours, ovarian cysts and endometriosis.
About this condition / service
Uterine fibroids are benign muscular growths that can cause heavy periods, pelvic pressure, urinary symptoms or fertility issues. Ovarian cysts are equally common and most are functional and harmless, but a few need close monitoring or surgery.
Endometriosis — the presence of uterine-lining tissue outside the uterus — is an under-diagnosed cause of severe period pain, painful intercourse and infertility. Diagnosis is clinical and confirmed on imaging or laparoscopy.
Treatment is matched to the woman’s age, family plans and symptom severity. Options range from observation and medical therapy to hysteroscopic, laparoscopic or open surgical management.
